One for my Enemy by Olivie Blake Book Review

I’m a sucker for a sweeping romance and an even bigger sucker when that romance is magical. I absolutely loved this book. The scenes that were set were described so vividly I felt like I was in the New York underworld with our characters the entire time.

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, this book tells the tale of two waring witch families, both powerful players in New York’s magical underworld. The Antonova sister are a coven of powerful female witches, who happen to be strikingly beautiful, who use their power in part to create elixirs and potions which are sold in their very popular store. The Federov men, 3 conveniently handsome brothers who also live in New York city, and who hold an equally prominent position within their society. The brother’s and the sister’s are sworn enemies because of a family feud that has spanned years.

Lev Federov is an unexpected male lead, he is calm and patient and level headed and seemingly has greatness thrust upon him, he does not go out seeking it. Lev grows on you slowly and before you know it he has completely consumed your heart as a romantic lead.

Sasha Antonova is a natural lead, the youngest of a large family and desperate to prove herself, she is a witch you want to watch. She is a strong female protagonist who you will want to root for throughout.

Lev and Sasha’s love story, swept up in a magical feud is dynamical and exciting and heart-breaking. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat as you learn more and more about the two young lovers, their families, and the community of witches and magical beings in New York city.

This is a great, modern, romantasy take on Romeo and Juliet and well worth the read!
