Model of an Elizabethan Theatre
From our archive comes this little model of an Elizabethan Theatre.
The model appears to be made of painted and varnished card and is a depiction of an Elizabethan theatre. The theatre has a thatched roof, multiple galleries, an impressive entrance, an exterior stair and several attached buildings (one of which, must be the giftshop!)
The model is mounted on a wooden base which has sustained damage.
The model has several removable parts. The roof above the entrance can be removed to reveal the stage and a mechanism which looks to have carried scenery. The theatre roof can be removed to reveal the galleries, which, in turn, can be removed to reveal the gallery beneath. The model has sustained some damage, with some paint chips and small losses.
the model measures approx. 205mm x 205mm and the base measures approx. 500mm x 43mm.
Unfortunately, we have very little information on the provenance of the model but we will provide a certificate of authentication to say that it came from our archive.
