Kursaal Sign Letter R - Princess Essex

This extra large carnival sign graced the Globe Theatre stage during our award-winning production of Princess Essex in 2024. The Kursaal was an amusement park in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The building, originally known as the Kursaal Palace was opened in 1901 as part of one of the world's first purpose-built amusement parks.
This listing is for a capital R. The letter is approximately 710 mm wide, 630 mm high, and 113 mm deep, and is made of gold painted and gold-leafed 18mm plywood with a red painted 3mm bent plywood surround. The letter has holes for 13 light bulbs and could be fitted with electrical components and bulb holders. It would make a fabulous statement decor piece.
The letter is purposefully aged but has dints and chips commensurate with being on stage and in storage. It is free-standing or can be mounted. The sign comes with a certificate of authenticity.
