Macbeth T-Shirt, Warts and All - Buy In-Store Only!

I purchased this Macbeth t-shirt as a Christmas gift after seeing it in the Globe store in September. The design is fantastic and the quality is what you'd expect, but the SIZING is significantly off from industry standards.

I ordered a Medium based on what we saw in store. However, the medium I received measured 74cm in length and was enormous. When I eventually received a Small as a replacement, it measured virtually identically to standard medium t-shirts from other retailers.

For context: I have a background in fashion design, costume making and tailoring, and have worked with many high street stores such as Anthropologie and Liberty London, plus brands like Prada. Their sizing for this t-shirt genuinely does not align with standard measurements, not for mens or womenswear.

Their size chart currently only shows chest width, with no length measurements (that's usual). The main product photograph shows the t-shirt tucked into jeans, so you can't see that it runs long. Customer service later admitted the style "runs longer than standard," but this crucial information isn't mentioned anywhere on the product page. Additionally, the medium we saw in store was noticeably smaller than the medium sent online, suggesting stock inconsistency.

There's a significant difference between a garment being oversized by design, meeting industry standard sizing, or being intentionally made longer than standard - versus being completely off, inconsistent, or mislabeled. If this t-shirt is designed to run large or long, that should be clearly stated. The problem here is the lack of transparency and the clear inconsistency between what's in store and what's sent online.

As someone who has worked in retail customer service at all levels - from high street to luxury - I found their approach disappointing. They don't include return labels with orders, so if you encounter sizing issues, you have to pay for returns yourself unless you can physically get to their store. When I raised this, I was told it's because they're a charity - but other charities and small businesses offer more straightforward returns for their customers. It's 2025 after all! After much backwards and forwards correspondence, they eventually sent a replacement but insisted throughout that their sizing was "accurate and standard."

The small is so lovely that I would've ordered one for myself - but talked myself out of it after the experience with customer services and the clear inconsistency between items that are supposedly the same size.

I do understand they're a charity, but accurate product information is essential for online shopping.

My Advice:
(1) Buy in-store where you can see the actual item
(2) If ordering online, size down from your usual size
(3) Don't rely on their size chart alone

The t-shirt itself is in fact lovely. The colour combination works well together and really pops AND perfectly embodies its own quote: 'Fair is foul, and foul is fair' - fair product, foul buying experience. You can avoid this saga yourself if you have the time to pop in, but order online at the risk of your own sanity.
