Solid Oak Globe Theatre Baluster
A unique opportunity to purchase a piece of Globe history!
These balusters were made for the Globe Theatre when the original frame was raised. Made of solid English oak in the workshop in which the Globe frame was created. They were handmade using a traditional pole lathe in the same way that the balusters in the theatre Shakespeare knew would have been made. These balusters were never sited within the theatre itself but have been kept on our Bankside site since our Globe theatre was finished.
Each baluster is slightly different due to its handmade nature and the colour and grain of the wood. We have 22 of the balusters available and each one comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Artistic Director, Michelle Terry.
Although the balusters are all made from solid oak, they have markedly different patinas due to the conditions in which they were stored, some being weathered to a silver grey and some retaining the warm oak colour. They are all dusty and some have paint splashes due to being kept in an active carpenters workshop on our site.
Size: 60cm in length and 5cm in width.
