I couldn't put this book down once I started it. It is a lovely retelling, laugh out loud funny, touching, and truly enjoyable to read.
17 year old Beatrice leads a cast of complex, truly likeable characters in this enemies to lovers retelling of Much Ado About Nothing. Beatrice, frustrated by the constrictions of her upper class domestic existence in 1930's England, lashing out and embarrassing her conservative parents, is sent to live with her uncle Leo in Italy. Leo, and his 'fiance' live a bohemian lifestyle that embraces art and the pursuit of art above all else. Providing sanctuary for a troupe of young artists, Leo lives a life completely at odds with the one which Bea's parents expect her to live, and the one which they have sent her to learn in Italy. Beatrice is instead allowed to live freely for the first time in her life, discovering and then exploring her passions for anatomy and eventually art.
There to guide Bea in her artistic pursuits is Ben. Ben is hot headed and passionate about his art and naturally gifted with women. Ben may finally have met his match in Beatrice, her head away with the insects, she seems hell-bent on staying immune to Ben's charms.
Filled with tense moments and impassioned conversations between our 2 main characters, this book is a page-turner!
